Traditional seasoning packets from the grocery store can be loaded with salt, preservatives, and MSG. They can also get expensive! But what are you to do if you want to make tacos? Throw in a bunch of spices and hope for the best? Carefully measure out a teaspoon of this and a 1/4 teaspoon of that each time you make tacos? No! Make up a batch of taco seasoning using your own spices (mine are bought in bulk to reduce costs) and have it available when needed. I mix mine up in an old spice bottle so it is easy to use and ready to go when I need it.
Taco Seasoning (slightly modified from Allrecipes)
3 tbsp chili powder
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 tbsp + 2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp sea salt
3 tsp black pepper
Mix together in an airtight container. Between 2-3 tbsp equals that expensive little packet.
